Today has been an interesting day. It's proven to me that I'm going to have to stay busy, so that I won't be preoccupied with thoughts of back home.
Let's start from the beginning. First, I slept though the whole night! I went to bed around 11pm and didn't wake up til my alarm went off at 7am. This is a big step on getting past my jet lag! Today was my scheduled day to go to Suwon and apply for my alien registration card. And since there are no classes this week, we had the whole day to do so.
It was a little over an hour bus ride to get to Suwon. Looking out the window as we rode, I was reminded a lot of West Virginia. Outside were tree-covered hills, all with leaves of various colors, due to the season change. Side note: It was cold today! 35 F. Tomorrow is supposed to be even colder. Anyway, it looked a lot like WV, except for the fact that any signs were in Korean, not English :P
When we arrived in Suwon, we had to get some more passport-sized photos for my ARC. The lady took great pictures, I kinda wish I had a larger copy for myself. So at the immigration office, there was a protest going on. It was a peaceful one, but there were still police everywhere. We had to walk past a whole group of officers who were protecting the immigration building, on our way up the stairs. Song-im told me that the protest was for human rights for immigrants. This was interesting to me, because I didn't hear much about stuff like that in the States. I don't think it happened often. So of course, that had me thinking of America. In the room full of people, there was another guy there, who was getting his ARC also, he was an English teacher. He was obviously happy to see someone who was a foreigner, like himself. And I realized how good it was to see and hear English from a native speaker.
Don't get me wrong, I love it hear already, I guess I was just thinking about America a lot, and my family and friends, and missing them. But like I said, I had a lot of free thinking time today, so that probaby didn't help. So, I know I had a lot more to write on this post, but I had written half of it while not at home, so now, I've forgotten what else I meant to say. Oh well...I guess it wasn't that important.
Anyway, sleep time now, work tomorrow.
